Australian Mokuhanga School
Traditional Japanese Art | Visual Art   (VIC)
The Australian Mokuhanga School is the brainchild of Terry McKenna, mokuhanga artist and teacher of Mokuhanga – Traditional Japanese water-based printmaking.

"I am proud to return to Australia and offer my skills to people here so that you too can enjoy the versatility and beauty of mokuhanga."

The school runs community based short courses where participants can learn the fundamental skills to produce their own woodblock print. Based from Ballarat, Victoria courses are now available in the Central Victorian area, including metroplitan Melbourne. The vision of the school is to make this wonderful, non-toxic printing technique available and accessible to anyone who wants to learn or try, from school children through to professional artists. McKenna is also available to teach in other areas if there is sufficient demand.

“Mokuhanga is for everyone... you don't need to be a professional artist to learn and enjoy mokuhanga. Anyone can learn and enjoy producing their own work. In Japan people from all walks of life have learnt and still make mokuhanga for their own enjoyment, from schoolchildren, to hobbyists, to professional artists.

It is our vision to make it available to anyone in Australia that would like to learn.”

The school's website has full details of courses available, what is involved, costs, as well as other information about the school, the teachers and about mokuhanga.
