Kaoru Rauter
Contemorary | Mixed Media | Traditional Japanese Art   (VIC)

Kaoru Rauter was born in Tokyo and from a young age was inspired to paint.  Her paintings reflect the natural environment, flora and coastal seascapes.

As a child Kaoru won many art competitions, painting in traditional Japanese style.  From the age of eight she practised the art of Shuji, a discipline involving meditation and the processing of liquid charcoal for calligraphy and traditional brushwork.
Kaoru has received numerous commissions for traditional paintings but also likes to work in abstract using acrylic, mixed media as well as pastel and water colour.

Kaoru immigrated to Australia in 1980 and participated in many art exhibitions throughout Australia and as a result has won several prizes, including :

  • The Inaugural Cystic Fibrosis Prize at the Batemans Bay Arts and Crafts Society Annual Exhibition2008 for “Cascade Series 1”
  • Best Overall Artwork, Japanese Experience, South Coast Pastel Society, 2007 for “Memory on the Breeze”
  • First Prize Portraits, at the Batemans Bay Arts and Crafts Society Annual Exhibition 2006 for “Walter”

Kaoru’s work has also been exhibited in Japan and her paintings have been selected in 2011 and 2010 for Hakujitsu-Kai Exhibition at the National Gallery of Tokyo.

Whatever genre she works in, Kaoru’s artworks reflect the exciting mix of Eastern and Western influences that make her art so distinctive. “I put all my energy into my paintings,” she says.
