Kyoko Imazu

Visual Art   (VIC)

Kyoko Imazu was born in Japan and has lived in Melbourne since 2002. She regularly exhibits her work nationally and internationally.

As a child she drew animals like rabbits, rats, cats and birds as well as imaginary creatures from folklores and old tales. Animals continue to dominate her art practice.

Her works on paper and artist books are inspired by her fixation with the animal kingdom and how recording and interpreting it evoke memories from her childhood.

She has been working with Australian artist Damon Kowarsky since 2010. Over the last years they have exhibited in Australia, New Zealand, the USA and Japan. In 2011 they travelled to Tokyo to install their prints at Aesop Aoyama, visit museums and galleries and research ideas for new work. In 2013 they returned to Japan as part of a travel scholarship from the Japan Foundation Sydney.
