Born and raised in Osaka, Japan, Shingo performed in theatre while he was studying at Rikkyo University in Tokyo.

Since 1997 he has been acting on TV, film, and in theatre in Australia. His theatre credits include the Australian tour of Miss Saigon, Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes, and Subtle Art of flirting.

In 2006 Shingo received Best Actor Award for his performance in a short play Uncomfortable Silences at Short & Sweet Festival. His TV and film credits include a Miramax film The Great Raid, Broken Sun, All Saints, Curtin, a HBO’s TV series The Pacific, and Red Dog.
