Simon Reece

Craft (NSW)

Simon Reece completed his ceramic studies at the National Art School ESTC Sydney in 1982. A passion for Japanese wood-fired ceramics led him to travel to Bizen in Okayama prefecture in 1985.

There he worked and studied under master potter Uneo Norihide learning new skills of making, firing and the aesthetic appreciation of ceramics.

Simon makes tableware for restaurants, exhibits, makes commissioned works including larger sculptural forms and is also working on mixed media works. His work reflects the area where he lives in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney.

'Increasingly my work is materials driven; where the outcomes are defined by the nature of the media used. I like to, in clay for instance let the clays’ particular properties shine or sing with the object created.'

Simons’ work is held in private collections in Australia, the USA and the Newcastle Regional Gallery; and used by 100’s of people daily in restaurants.
