Visual Art | Traditional Japanese Art | Mixed Media   (TAS)

I was born in Fukuoka, Japan, in 1948. After living in New Zealand for several years, in 1986 I shifted finallyto Carnarvon, Western Australia with my Australian husband and then to Tasmania in 1994 and returned to Perth WA in 2014.

I have been enthusiastically making art for all of my life and formally graduated from the Art School at the University of Tasmania to acquire a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2007.

My specialities are oil and acrylic painting, silk painting, watercolour and printmaking. I have held many solo & group exhibitions, mainly in Tasmania and had some art awards such as Best Print Award at the City of Burnie TasArt Exhibition in 2008 and Runner Up Print/Drawing section at the Clarence Art Exhibition in 2008. My unique hand-painted silk scarves are always so popular.

For the last three years 2011 to 2013, I temporarily stopped my art activities due to my amazing long-term journey around the whole of Europe, North America and Canada. I had good opportunities to visit hundreds of fantastic art galleries and museums over there.

For recent years I have concentrated on creating colourful images of stylized ladies which depict the harmony, not the conflict, between Japan and Australia. “Harmony between Two Cultures” is my main theme. My images of the West are plastic culture (credit cards and disposable products), ladies’ fashionable hats, shoes, big ear rings, wine, roses, churches, Teddy bears, blue eyes and blond hair. Gum trees and nuts, The Southern Cross, red soil, coral reefs, Ayres Rock, kangaroos and koalas for Australian images. On the contrary, distinctive Japanese images are kimono, origami, silk, cranes, cherry blossoms, irises, bamboos, Mt. Fuji and Hello Kitty. I have tried to weave these different images harmoniously into my art works.

In my youth I wanted to become a cartoonist. However, now in my middle age I have really found my goal to become a great artist. I am very proud of expressing sweet images with love and hope for all humanity in my art works. I see my art works as bridging different cultures.
