Music/Sound | Traditional Japanese Music | Traditional Japanese Performance   (QLD)
Toko-Ton is a Brisbane based Japanese drum (taiko) group. Using a combination of movement and rhythm, playing modern and traditional songs and styles Toko-ton show how an instrument that was developed over 2,000 years ago can still very much connect and inspire audiences today.

Toko-ton taiko is made up of 3 Brisbane based, experienced taiko players, Chie Kajiwara and Shinobu Takebata from Japan and Steve Mason from Australia. All 3 members have trained under highly skilled and respected Japanese taiko masters. With the ongoing desire to refine their skills, members continue to be guided by these masters allowing them to remain traditionally authentic. Toko-ton builds their unique style on top of these traditional foundations.

Since the group was formed, Toko-ton has performed taiko at many of Brisbane’s iconic locations, festivals, public and private events. They have also performed and done workshops throughout Queensland including a recent cultural tour for the Consulate-General of Japan, Brisbane, performing for more than 30 schools in regional areas of Queensland.
